I work at a riding school, the Coloured Cob Equestrian Centre, teaching all levels of rider, and schooling horses from cobs to competition horses. I have worked in the industry for 18 years, over this time when schooling, I have found many cases where something doesn't "feel" right, I have used many different vets, physios and massage therapists in an attempt to resolve these problems to no avail.
Often the solution offered is that the horse is doing X, Y and Z because it is young, has behavioural problems or in the worst case simply told that the horse is fine and just needs a telling off, despite what I believed. Tom has changed all that, the slightest concern or feeling I have I now relay directly to Tom and the change and improvement in the horse is without fail breath-taking.
Tom was initially called out to see my eventing mare “Fiasco”. Since we bought her she was always tense and resistant to the contact, yet despite this she would happily jump double clear. However I always felt that something was wrong. We had two physios and a massage therapist out, with varying but short term results.
She then began to have intermittent lameness on her off hind and began to point her near fore at rest in the field. After five different vets were consulted I was told it was the saddle, that it was behavioural and she simply wasn't lame enough to do a work up on her! After many arguments and a bute trial, we managed to get x-rays and a diagnosis of kissing spines was made.
She then had steroid injections, which had no effect and I was at the point of putting her down. Tom then came out to see her and found a long list of problems. He explained in detail how each problem had occurred and that Fiasco most likely had pelvic problems at the root of it all. He also explained that her kissing spine was also not a primary problem.
After two treatments with Tom she was back in ridden work at walk and trot daily. After an internal examination and third treatment she is now back in full work. The results have been absolutely astounding and I simply cannot thank him enough. We are now awaiting X-rays to see if the kissing spine is still present, we are hoping it has been reversed by Tom’s treatment.
Since then, Tom has treated many of the riding school horses. These include youngsters who are having schooling issues, which would traditionally be described as stiffness or lacking flexion. He also treated those that work hard teaching beginners who are not as light in the saddle and have to compensate for this. Tom has without doubt, helped to improve their welfare.
We simply had no one with his depth of knowledge and ability to do so before he started treating them.
Tom’s depth of knowledge, compassion and ability to see and help what most professionals miss, is simply unrivalled. I cannot recommend him enough.
